Circulation Chiller Maintenance Guide
2026-08-19
Like cars, circulation chillers require regular inspection and maintenance. Proper maintenance not only helps keep the equipment running stably but also extends its lifespan. This article will introduce the maintenance measures required for circulation chillers from four perspectives: weekly maintenance, quarterly maintenance, annual maintenance, and downtime maintenance.
Key Points:
● Weekly Maintenance: Conduct basic equipment checks and promptly identify any operational anomalies.
● Quarterly Maintenance: Perform more in-depth equipment checks, cleaning, and necessary component maintenance.
● Annual Maintenance: Conduct a comprehensive equipment inspection to ensure all systems are operating normally.
● Downtime Maintenance: Perform downtime maintenance when equipment is not in use for extended periods to prevent malfunctions upon restarting.
Weekly Maintenance

Weekly maintenance primarily involves basic checks of the equipment to promptly identify potential problems during operation. This mainly includes the following:
1. Check Coolant Level
Check if the coolant level in the tank is normal. If the level is too low, add the appropriate amount of coolant promptly. Also, observe if the coolant shows significant discoloration; if so, replace it as needed to avoid affecting the normal operation of the equipment.
2. Check for Leaks
Check for leaks in the coolant lines, joints, valves, etc. If any leakage is found, locate and repair the leak immediately to prevent further coolant loss and impact on the equipment's temperature control.
3. Check Equipment Operating Status
Check if the temperature, pressure, flow rate, and other parameters of the equipment are normal during operation. If the equipment exhibits abnormal alarms, temperature fluctuations, abnormal noise, or vibration, stop the machine immediately for inspection.
4. Check Condenser Surface
For air-cooled circulation chillers, regularly check the condenser surface for accumulated dust or debris. Excessive dust will affect heat dissipation and reduce cooling efficiency.
Quarterly Maintenance
Compared to weekly maintenance, quarterly maintenance requires a more thorough inspection and cleaning of the equipment.
1. Clean the Condenser
Regularly remove dust and debris from the condenser surface to maintain good heat dissipation. For environments with harsh conditions or high dust levels, the cleaning cycle can be shortened.
2. Check the Circulation Pump Operation
Check the circulation pump for smooth operation and any abnormal noise or vibration. Also check the coolant flow rate to ensure a continuous and stable supply of coolant, preventing insufficient flow from affecting the equipment's temperature control performance.
3. Check the Piping Condition
Conduct a comprehensive inspection of the coolant piping, ensuring hoses are not aged, damaged, or deformed, and that pipe joints are not loose or leaking.
4. Check the Coolant Condition
Regularly check the coolant condition based on the equipment's usage frequency and coolant type. Replace the coolant promptly if it is contaminated or its performance has significantly deteriorated.
5. Check Electrical Connections
Check power cords, terminals, and other electrical connections for tightness, aging, or abnormal overheating.
Annual Maintenance
Annual maintenance requires a comprehensive inspection of the circulation chiller. For equipment that operates continuously for extended periods or is used frequently, the frequency of maintenance can be increased as needed.
1. Check the Refrigeration System
Inspect the compressor, refrigeration piping, and other refrigeration components to ensure the refrigeration system is functioning correctly.
2. Check the Temperature System
Check the temperature control system for proper function, confirming there is no significant deviation between the actual and set temperatures.
3. Check Safety Protection Functions
Check the equipment's overload protection, liquid level protection, and other safety protection functions for proper function, ensuring timely protection in case of abnormalities.
4. Comprehensive Equipment Inspection
Conduct a comprehensive inspection of major components such as the circulation pump, fan, condenser, piping, and electrical system, and perform necessary repairs or replacements based on the actual operating condition of the equipment.
How to maintain a circulation chiller when it's not in use for an extended period?
If the circulation chiller needs to be shut down for a long time, simply turning off the power and leaving it unattended is not enough. The following steps should be taken for maintenance:
First, the coolant should be treated according to the equipment's requirements. If the equipment is to be shut down for an extended period and the coolant is not suitable for long-term storage, the coolant should be drained, and the tank and piping should be properly cleaned.
Second, check for any residual moisture inside and outside the equipment. The equipment must be kept in a dry and clean environment. Additionally, dust prevention measures should be taken to prevent dust from entering the condenser and other critical components.
Finally, before putting the equipment back into use, check the coolant, piping, power supply, and major components. Only start the equipment after confirming there are no abnormalities.
