Waterproof test purpose and scope of application

IPX1~IPX8 are test methods for electrical and electronic products that may be subjected to dripping, flushing or immersion during transportation, storage or use. They are used to assess whether the seals of electrical and electronic products such as the shell and cover can be guaranteed after or during the water test; this test method is not suitable for corrosion tests and does not simulate the large temperature difference between water and the test piece, such as increased water inflow caused by pressure changes and thermal shock. This test includes artificial rain tests based on natural conditions, but natural rainfall with strong wind speed is usually not considered; it can be used as a reference for product technical standards. This test consists of three groups: dripping <using artificial rainfall and simulating precipitation formed by condensation or leakage>; flushing <impacting the test piece with water flow at a certain pressure, and it can be assumed to be rushing to the test piece from any angle>; immersion <immersing the test piece in water at a specified depth or corresponding pressure to ensure good working performance of equipment and components>. Among them:

a. Dripping test: Applicable to electrical and electronic products that may be subjected to vertical precipitation during transportation, storage or use, and these precipitations come from natural rainfall, leakage or condensation.

b. Water flushing test: Applicable to electrical and electronic products that may be exposed to water during transportation, storage or use. The water comes from heavy rain, wind and rain, sprinkler system, wheel splashing, flushing or violent waves.

c. Water immersion test: Applicable to electrical and electronic products that are waterproof and may be exposed to water during transportation or use.

d. IP9K test: Applicable to simulate the damage caused to the product under the environmental conditions of strong water flushing at high temperature after the engine is running, and water produces high-temperature water vapor under high temperature;

e. UL45 test: Applicable to the splash-proof test of ballasts and capacitors.

To meet these stringent testing requirements, test chambers are widely used in experimental environments to ensure the controllability of test conditions.

In particular, walk-in chamber can be used to test large equipment or multiple samples, simulating various extreme environmental conditions to verify product reliability and durability.
